Tom Atchison Speaker Biography
Thomas A. Atchison, Ed.D., is President and founder of Atchison Consulting LLC. Since 1984, Dr. Atchison has consulted with healthcare organizations, on managed change programs, teambuilding and leadership development.
He has consulted to the military, healthcare vendors, and government agencies on the intangible aspects of healthcare. He also has taught several courses on leadership and change management for the American college of Healthcare Executives. Typically, he consults to senior executives, managers, trustees and physician leaders.
Dr. Tom Atchison has written a number of articles about motivation, managed change, teambuilding, and leadership. Dr. Tom Atchison’s book, Turning Healthcare Leadership Around, was published by Jossey-Bass in October 1990. His second book titled, Leading Transformational Change: The Physician-Executive Partnership, was published by Health Administration Press, a division of the Foundation of the American college of Healthcare Executives, in October 2001. His third book, FOLLOWERSHIP: A Practical Guide to Aligning Leaders and Followers, was published by Health Administration Press, a division of the Foundation of the American college of Healthcare Executives, in November 2003. His book, LEADERSHIP: The Deeper Dimensions, was published in 2005, and his latest book Leading Healthcare Cultures: How Human Capital Drives Financial Performance, was released in December 2008.
Dr. Tom Atchison is a member at American college of Healthcare Executives, and earned his doctorate degree in Human Resource Development at Loyola University of Chicago.

The last several years have seen a dramatic shift in the ethos of working in healthcare, especially for physicians, other caregivers and non-clinical hospital staff. This shift from highly engaged, loyal, and committed to caring for others has, in many places, been replaced with overly restrictive productivity metrics and a personal loss of autonomy. These dynamics have eroded the personal meaning, joy, pride and the purpose of being a caregiver or an ancillary service provider in today’s healthcare industry. This course will attempt to answer the question: How do healthcare leaders maximize sustainable employee engagement? And, this course will present a “tool kit” to rekindle personal and professional meaning for those working in the healthcare industry.
